Stall set up at Chitra Santhe

Art is beautiful, art is an emotion, art is liberating. I think this is applicable to any art form.

Art has been an integral part for me, whether it was learning a music lesson or sketching a scenery. What is more of a hobby for me is a livelihood to many, of course this is influenced by the choices we make.

Selling art is particularly challenging, got a chance to do this, hence, sharing my experience. Chitra Santhe is an art exhibition that is organized annually, the first Sunday of the year by Chitra Kala Parishath, Bangalore’s famous art school.

It’s a prestigious exhibition, over 1500 artists presented their work this year, was given the opportunity to showcase some of my paintings ( and eventually sell 🤗 ) along with my sister.

Art is a complicated market. Would it pass the “Toothbrush test" ? This is for you to decide.

Point is, the value proposition is not clearly defined, as justified in the title. I can’t say, look if you buy this painting it will do xyz for you. It’s not like a SaaS product where the outcomes are clearly defined, which makes selling it even harder. Think about it!

Selling is never easy, it’s almost like 1000 things need to be in place for you to make that sale, they are all split- second decisions. Getting this equation right isn’t all that simple for amateurs, but once you crack it, the feeling is unmatched 🤓

Sure there are times when you feel miserable because people can’t see the magic of what you are selling, this is either because you are selling the wrong thing or selling it to the wrong people, it’s for you to figure out 💁‍♀️

I believe our SaaS sales cycles work in a similar manner, ultimately it’s another human you are trying to convince. Bottomline is always believe in what you are doing and keep selling : ))
